I sang "I Will Always Love you" by Whitney Houston and "Mamma Mia" from Abba for this benefit concert. All the proceeds (including many kilos of rice) go to schools in the Sahara. The people of Spain feel obliged to help the people of the Sahara because it was once Spanish territory but they abandoned it to Morroco. Morroco invaded Sahara and so the people of Spain hold benefit concerts and collect supplies to send to the people there. Some of the other performers include the Spanish guitar and Sevillanas dancers. It was definitely an amateur production, but it was for a good cause.
I went and read about the hisory of Spain, the Sahara, and Morroco - very interesting. Those dancers at the benefit were performing the same dance you are currently learning at dance class?

Great photos! It certainly would have been delightful to be there and see you on stage again . .
ReplyDeleteWOW! What beautiful clothes! So colorful! I think I'll also take a look at the history of Spain Morroco and the Sahara...super neat! Where did you do it? Is it in a theater, or is there a community center or something?

We performed at a local venue, yes, but the group sponsoring and organizing the event is the cultural center of Campello (the city). Remind me to post pictures of the theater.
